Let the adventure begin!

About a month ago, I decided to check out traveling this summer...by myself.  I have always had a list miles long of places I wanted to go and things to do, but until about 2 months ago I didn't feel like I could. Now I know I can. So I started browsing websites and talking to people about their experiences.  My cousin is going to Peru for several months next fall and gave me an amazing site to look at volunteer opportunities in Central America. So I looked through several and finally came across one that look legit, and not super expensive, flexible, and fun!  So I decided to fill out the on-line application, 30 minutes later I had a Skype appointment for the following Tues. The Skype appointment went well and I was offered a couple opportunities.  I chose working in Tela (a beautiful rural beach town) at an orphanage. I will be living with about 5 or 6 others, I think 3 will be from the US, in a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom house around the corner from the orphanage.  There are hammocks on the porch, and papayas, mangoes, and leeches in the back yard....mmmmmmmmmm! I will work with the children 4 days a week and have 3 day weekends to do some traveling.  I just know that this adventure will be challenging, fun, sad, exciting, and amazing!  I can't wait!  I have decided to document through blog that way you all can follow along on this journey of mine. I hope you enjoy reading....

Right now I am in the middle of my plane ticket search.  I must fly into San Pedro Sula, and take a taxi or bus to Tela.  So I have found some reasonable tickets from Chicago, just have to make sure I get times worked out.

A preview of whats to come....garage sale, in a few weeks to raise $$$ for me and the kids at the orphanage, a donation dinner at my house, and lists of things the kids need at the orphanage.  Stay tuned!
